Another hurricane and riots

Well, it looks like the Gulf Coast is going to be facing yet another hurricane before long. Just what we did not need. And California had a mild quake down near San Diego. What's next? Plagues of locusts?

I watched FNC's coverage of the Toledo riots, (yes, I'm a Fox News Channel watcher. What of it?) and I have to wonder why those people who threw rocks and set buildings on fire thought they had a right to do so and if they really believed they would further their own cause by doing those things. I have nothing against peaceful protests. But these people weren't peaceful. While I don't agree with the group who had permission from the city to protest, and I believe that the citizens in the area had a right to a counter protest, there is absolutely no excuse to ever start doing the things they did.

They're upset that the city council gave permission for the Neo-Nazi rally to begin with. Well, the last time I read my Constitution, it included something called the "Bill of Rights" which allows for freedom of speech. I can stand on a street corner and say whatever I want to. And others have the right to do the same thing. But we do not have the right to physically attack others when they disagree or to cause damage to police officers or private property simply because we're angry that someone else has the right to espouse their views.

And they want us to believe that the Neo-Nazis are the bad guys here? How? The NNs left as soon as the protest started getting out of hand, yet the counter protesters remained and escalated things far beyond where they should have gone. And they have the nerve to be upset that the police were protecting the NNs instead of them. I'm not sure that the counter protesters were the ones in danger in that situation.

As a side note, I read something interesting last week about NASCAR's head guy, Brian France, talking about not liking the fact that fans fly the old Confederate battle flag (the 'Stars and Bars') at races because he's trying to include everyone in the racing.

That's fine. But don't take away my right to fly a flag that I believe to be part of my Southern heritage.

It's not about hate. It's about heritage.

Deal with it.

Later!

As always, the ideas expressed in this are my own. If you disagree, fine. Just don't go flaming me unless you want to be flamed in return. I've been known to label people who can't read the fine print as Village Idiots, so you've been warned. <G>

IMs

Wow. Now MSN and Yahoo are going to make their messaging programs interact. If I'm not mistaken, AIM and ICQ are already joined in that way. Reports are that this is being done to combat AIM and Google, who is just getting into the IM game. It would be nice if all the IM programs out there would send mail to the others. That way, we would only have to run one IM program instaed of three or four, using up system resources.

I'd like to see this happen, but I'm not sure it ever will.

My IM stuff:
AIM: SteeleFan9
YIM: nancyweddy

I'm not usually on ICQ or MSN or AIM, tho. I keep YIM up all the time.

More nature comments

Didn't I mention that it was scary and strange, all the problems happening
everywhere? Now we have mudslides in Guatemala and thousands of people missing
in Pakistan, and flooding in New Hampshire.

It's crazy.

And then we have the police in New Orleans. It's not bad enough that they're
facing a major PR nightmare after the hurricane and flooding - now they're
beating old men on camera and then jumping the people filming their crime.

I still think the world has become a majorly scary place.

This is only a test

I'm publishing this via email - something new for me. Just wondering how it comes through. LOL!
I've decided to use this blog for off the cuff comments, about world events. Be warned: I lean more toward the conservative mindset than I do anything else. So if you consider yourself to be a liberal or left winger, you might not agree or appreciate my comments.

This is my blog, so I can post what I want to. If you don't like what you read here, remember that no one is forcing you to read it. Go get your own blog and post your thoughts there. If you post flames here, I probably won't reply.

Hey

Well, I thought I should put something here. Kinda silly to create a blog and then not use it, right?

After the last few months, with the floods and earthquakes and such, I'm beginning to wonder what might be next.

Kind of a scary thought, isn't it?
